River, Research and TomRocksMaths

Have you ever thought while sitting on a sea beach "Wish I could end this pollution"? How about if we say that there’s something that can certainly be done by applying our favourite subject- Maths?
OVERVIEW
Civil Engineering Society (CES) actively organizes live webinars and guest lectures to enrich and inspire people. This time, CES invited Dr. Tom Crawfordas the key-note speaker to enlighten on the topic "Tracking The Trash- Decoding marine pollution using Mathematics", by sharing about his PhD thesis, which aims to decrypt the nature of the outflow of rivers in an ocean and also about his love and impetus for being a researcher.
Dr. Tom Crawford is a mathematician at the University of Oxford and outreach fellow at St. Edmund Hall. Dr. Crawford completed his PhD in applied mathematics from the University of Cambridge. He is also a “Creator on the Rise” YouTuber with over 5 Million views on his channel.

THE TASK
The major creative front task was to design aesthetically engaging posters to contribute effectively to PR (Public Relations) work and to marketing of the event. As it was the first time for the institute to witness an international speaker, the prime challenge was to reach as many people as possible by visually communicating at the first instance.

THE OUTCOME
> So, I designed the first "coming soon" poster for the announcement of the event and also to hype up the audience so as to imprint the event into them. The colours and typography was also chosen to maintain the professionalism of the event.

> Secondly, the main was designed to reveal the date and enlighten about the specifics of the event. The background pattern (circles and lines) for this poster was chosen to align with Maths.
> Thirdly, I designed the brochure for the mass audience from various domains so as to give out in-depth knowledge about the event and the organizer.

THE IMPACT
The guest lecture was a huge success as it witnessed over 100+ participants. The visual communication idea with two different type of posters was effective as the event witnessed international students from London to China.
