The Baadarane Center for Mountain Sports

DESIGNED BY:
Bilal Malaeb
LOCATION: Baadarane, Lebanon
AREA: 13,233 sqm
This project is situated on an abandoned airstrip atop a mountain hill within the village of Baadarane, Lebanon. The design brief required the re-organization of existing the public activities scattered along the airstrip as well as the introduction of a new mountain sports center on its premises. The main conceptual drive here was the existing nature of the terrain, particularly how to imbed a building without interrupting the steep cliffs that fall along the airstrip's ends. Accordingly, the volumetric implementation in this project is represented in two approaches; the first immerses it into the slopes and the other separates it from them above them without the need for heavy excavation. As a result, a design that seamlessly blends into its surrounding context was conceived.
