The Future of Our Last Wildcat

|| The Future of Our Last Wildcat, 2021 ||

Using Elgin Bridge at Boat Quay as our visual departure point, we incorporated the river's history, natural environment and Singaporeʼs cultural landscape as a habitat for the leopard cat. This mural presents the fantasy of our last surviving wildcat, the mainland leopard cat, roaming natural and manmade landscapes throughout the city.

The design focuses on five bustling scenes within Singapore and throughout these, viewers will spot the leopard cat alongside several other wild neighbours such as the Sunda pangolin and common palm civet. A scene intentionally depicts the leopard cat at risk of roadkill on a highway, one main contributing factor to the decline of the wildcat and other local wildlife.

Through this community painting, we hope to educate the public on leopard cats and
other wildlife in our City in Nature and encourage deeper reflection on how we can contribute to a more compassionate society where the lives of all sentient life forms
are respected and protected. We also hope to motivate people from all walks of life
to come together and engineer creative solutions for the survival of our last wildcat.

Here are some snippets of the community mural, where adults, children,
and even fur friends came together to paint for a good cause!

From sketches to the multiple colour variations! It's always fascinating to see how a sketch slowly evolves to the coloured and more cohesive version. Small adjustments and details were added throughout the process, enhancing the design greatly with each change.
