CityAPI continues a process of thought that has been ongoing for quite some time. Catalyzed by a challenge on the OpenIDEO platform, the winning concept [ Opencity ] went on to become CtiyAPI. Produced for the municipality of Landskrona, Sweden, It provided a platform for citizen engagement and dialogue
to help citizens make their neighborhoods better.
Using the site, residents can tag a space they think is underutilized.  The home page shows a map of their region including previously tagged spaces. Each space is color coded to show progress.
Once a resident tags a space a conversation can begin about what the community would like to have happen in the underutilized space.  It could be something as simple as a clean-up or block party, to something more sophisticated such as building play equipment or petitioning a municipality.
There are many ways for people to contribute to the conversation.  They can use a written response, embed pictures or youtube videos, or offer up resources such as tools, materials and skills.
