Four Senses Lamp
This was a project developed in a Workshop class in the University of Tsukuba (2021). The goal of this project was basically "create something with paper". My idea came out of experimenting washi (Japanese paper), wrinkling it and checking how interesting was its properties. I could feel how strong it is, but still how good light could pass through it, and that's why it is so used in Japanese houses as well.

Since I also research about Kansei/Emotional Design I tried to apply some of my thoughts in this project on developing something that could stimulate at 4 of our senses: seeing, hearing, olfactory and touch.

(1) The hearing was stimulated by song played or any sound on the environment. Then, the light/lamp would respond to it blinking the light and changing its intensity according to the sounds around it. By the way, you could also talk to the light, and it would respond to your voice sound as well.

(2) The visual was stimulated by lights, the color of the paper and how interesting it is when wrinkled.

(3) The touch could be stimulated by the texture of the paper after wrinkled. Not only that stimuli, the wrinkled paper was a way that I found that this kind of paper becomes more malleable, so I could create the lamp shade shape.

(4) The smell was stimulated by some scent that I put on the paper. And here is another interesting property of it. The washi is strong enough hold the scent for some time and it doesn't lose its quality if the scent used has alcohol as base. The water based ones could not be applied in a high concentration.
