CROSSING STAGES - Atravesando escenarios (2013-2015, Spain/France/Italy/Portugal/Slovenia) arts project co-funded by the European Union. Crossing Stages is the story of a group of artists who embark themselves in the multicultural adventure of searching a common culture in Europe today.
OVERVIEW
Crossing Stages nurtures a common culture in Europe connecting young artists from different countries with classic mythology. The project develops mainly through performing arts, and also film/media arts, visual arts, music, writing, and technology including a series of workshops, lectures, publications, and academic activities. Crossing Stages connects new generations with Greek myths to build cultural links. Coordinated by Spain along with France, Italy, Portugal, and Slovenia, this cutting-edge program was co-funded by the Culture Program of the European Union. The main segment of the program took place in 2013-2015, and selected activities have been still in progress internationally over the years.

Pedro Valiente worked as director of communication developing a transmedia universe of contents including digital work (webs, social networks), media (feature film, documentary film, videos), art (performance, video art), visuals (photos, illustrations), texts (book, press, essays), and new technology (augmented reality, robotics).

YOU ARE MYTHICAL - Tú eres mítico (2018, Spain, 80min) feature documentary film that tells the story of seven young people who connect their daily life with classic myths You Are Mythical is a transmedia documentary film with fiction, animation, video art, and performance. This experimental film has been shot in five countries --Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia-- and seven languages: Spanish, English, Italian, French, Portuguese, Slovenian, and Greek.
AWARDS You Are Mythical won awards in two film festivals in Los Angeles, and has screened in eight countries including the United States, Spain, Greece, Ecuador, Jordan, India, and Indonesia.
TRANSMEDIA You Are Mythical is a feature film with a contemporary narrative where the audience is free to create its own storytelling. It is a road map. You can watch the entire film (80min), stories (10min), visual poems (3min), and/or animations (1min). As a transmedia project, the film develops through a universe of contents including online platforms and productions.
SYNOPSIS
Penelope is a woman in search of love. Ulysses is an untiring traveler. Jason, pursing a dream, fights a Dragon. Oedipus dreams of moving abroad. Antigone dissolves into herself. Narcissus is desperate by the mirror. And the Sirens, those ocean creatures, call the sailors of life. You Are Mythical explores the quest of a common culture: of what makes as humans. And Mythical.

PENELOPE IS WAITING - Penélope està esperando (2015, Spain, 7min) is the first segment of the video art trilogy Multiple Portraits (2015-2022) "We imagine an empty space in the end of the world, which is here. Inside everyone. A long wait full of love where everything is an affirmation of life. (Maybe this is why Ulysses by James Joyce ends: yes I said I want yes.)" --PV
OVERVIEW
Conceived as a transmedia project, it´s a video installation for art centers, public spaces, and the internet. Main element is the simultaneous projection of four videos of 7min as a Cubist scene by Picasso. As a live performance, Penelope is Waiting is a moving portrait of mythical Penelope in four large screens displaced on a room. Spectators enter the space and decide what to see. They are free to choose since the picture is neither single nor still. Penelope is viewed in different ways –looking through a Balcony, sleeping under a Table, floating around Columns, and making Coffee. Although in this game of mirrors (screens/portraits) there is a double narrative –the open story constructed in the mind of the audience and the one suggested by the contemporary music.
TRANSMEDIA As a transmedia project, Penelope is Waiting is connected with other productions and platforms. It came out filmming one of the seven stories of You Are Mythical feature film, which is linked to a variety of contents as Crossing Stages book, INTERDISCIPLINARY Penelope is Waiting is conceived as a technological tableau vivant with performers/artists Alfredo Miralles and Irene Gómez. An essential element is the contemporary music composed by Juan José Talavera, emotional and subtle, that creates a powerful storytelling along with the sound design including a beautiful song a capella, La Lucha, a contribution by the son jarocho band Son de Madera from Veracruz, Mexico. It integrates a performance by Paloma Zavala, photography by Daniel Rodríguez del Pozo, still photography Juan Manuel Núñez, and site designed by Sara Conde.

CROSSING EUROPE - Atravesando Europa (2015, Spain, 30min) is a documentary film for television and online platforms about Crossing Stages that aired on Canal 22 International, Mexico.
Crossing Europe has been shot in five countries and a dozen of languages from 2013 to 2015 in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, and Slovenia. The film follows the process of Crossing Stages. Dance, performance, theater, film, music, technology, visual arts, and academic activities branch out in a unique project focused on international and interdisciplinary artistic training diving into the heart of a common heritage. Soundtrack includes "Silver" by The Grey Havens, "Esperance" by David Schombert, "Stange Row", "6am", and Dripping" by Slogan, as well as songs by other bands like Broke for Free, Origambiro, and Kevin McLeod.
SYNOPSIS
Crossing Europe is a multicultural portrait of Europe today. Artists embark themselves on a challenging adventure to create together through culture a new community.

“Myths are connected with the poets since they create the language.” --SERGIO BLANCO playwright/director. Crossing Stages web series spans to near 30 videos and 70 interviews with participants from several countries. Media work here gives a glance at all the activities for Crossing Stages (dance, theater, music, film, visual arts…) through events celebrated in Spain: UniEscena Festival (2014, Cuenca), and Mythical Visions (2014, Ávila).

In Search of the Myth follows a theater workshop, Whisperers is a urban action using augmented reality, About Innocence shows work by Spanish dancers, and Les Sept Dormants work by French dancers, and Mythical Visions and UniEscena Festival document annual arts events.

Book by Aula de las Artes / UC3M for Crossing Stages (SPANISH) *"Libro memoria del proyecto Crossing Stages para la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Encargo de libro resumen de la actividad desarrollada durante 2 años dentro del proyecto Crossing Stages gestionado por el Aula de las Artes de UC3M. El concepto con el que jugábamos era materializar el espíritu detrás de este proyecto internacional y transversal de investigación escénica. Con unas cubiertas hechas de cartoncillo de 0,5mm serigrafiadas a una tinta buscamos obtener un volumen extra en el libro que, sin aumentar el presupuesto, aportara la fisicidad, el sentido del tacto y la calidez como respuesta al briefing. La tercera de cubierta además contiene un USB extraplano con los vídeos realizados en el transcurso del proyecto. El libro funciona al mismo tiempo como un contendor de material audiovisual resultado del proyecto. La cubierta contiene la logomarca de Crossing Stages, creada por Jacobo Pérez Enciso." ---alturaX
