CARGO LIVING: tiny housing for temporary living

Tiny, modular housing has become an increasingly popular form of living in recent times, due to the decreasing amount of available land in dense cities. New York City is by far an exemplar of tiny living; this combined with the demand for more temporary housing solutions – for young adults, or professionals who need a place to stay for 6 months at a time – has become the basic premise of this pocket home concept. The design concept is further articulated through the use of shipping containers – used for shipping cargo, (particularly relevant to the port that is NYC through the Hudson & East Rivers) – as the structural framing and facade of these homes. The "stackability" of shipping containers proves to be an excellent type to use when solving an infill architectural housing issue on 271 Bowery.
