3rd Year Architecture Academic Project
Social architecture is the conscious design of an environment that encourages a desired range of social behaviors to achieve a goal or a set of goals. The sustainability of a given space to social interaction plays vital role in its appeal.
The most interesting aspect of Anarkali Bazar of significant importance is the concept of socializing between people from different forms of life that work as a driving force of social interaction. It has attracted all classes of people, for its range of products that are sold. As soon as you walk through the narrow streets you see a new bazar in itself at every turn.
Concept is basically developed from the idea of social interaction between the people and the voices you get to hear from the sellers, encouraging and convincing their customers to buy, even holding their hands because this is the beauty of a bazar. It has the ability to extend social behavior as well as the marketplace itself, physically and a personal sense of liberty in the narrowness is felt by the users by walking in the streets.
In vertical projects socializing and communication is something that is seen as something of a construct because it creates vertical dead ends and habitat disconnectedness in the built environment. In order to cater that, I have proposed a space that addresses these issues and provides a space that encourages social interaction in a vertical set up by stacking modules on top of each other and create visualizing spaces along with interactive spaces in between through voids. I have also provided terraces to cater the dead ends and for the shops to have double entry spaces.Since bazar has a flexible nature of growth for vendors and certain encroachments, I have left spaces which have the ability to grow and expand on its own.
The grid is extruded through several magnet points of the immediate site and the planar lines are directed towards those points to change its directionality and to produce focal points.
