"Ghare Baire" is an attempt to portray women- behind and beyond the threshold of their homes, their comfort spaces.

Since times eternal, sarees have played an integral role in the process of self expression and one's being. Tidy pleats, neatly held together with a safety pin ("septipin" as we Bengalis term it) were indicative of women at work. The same saree in the absence of a "septipin" is associated with women at leisure, casually letting their "aanchols" fall over, like a river that flows ever so gracefully.
This project is an ode to these women, who hold on to each other like a "septipin" holds together the pleats of a jamdani passed down through generations.
I extend my gratitude to Sriparna Baidya- owner of Be Artsy and Tanuka Ray for being a part of this project and bringing each attempt into life, through the drapes and folds of the fabrics.
