Jacqueline Casey Retrospective Exhibition

INTRODUCTION
For a large majority of my Typography three course, we were focused on researching a typographer that made outstanding contributions to the field of design. With this research we were required to create a pitch book for an exhibit in order to pitch a retrospective exhibition featuring our typographers works. The idea was to take your designers style and works and create new visuals that best represent the designer chosen. These designs would extend from advertising, interior exhibit designs to merchandise sold within the exhibit. I chose to focus my research and assignment on designer and typographer Jacqueline Casey. I titled the exhibit Breaking Barriers as Casey was one of the first renowned female designers. She broke barriers for women embarking on careers in male dominated industries and broke barriers within the design field with her remarkable approach to type and design. Relating back to Casey’s large influence on the world a large part of the visuals for this exhibit were centred around the grey scale imagery of earth. I broke up the image in different ways circling back to the exhibit title “Breaking Barriers”. Casey’s design style often consisted of sharp contrast of black, white and red. I paid ohm-age to her designs by incorporating her popular colour scheme as well as line work relating back to her design works titled Coffee Hour and Academic Honesty.
