A03: Expressive Forms
Visually express three words form a list. I chose transmission, noncooperation, and collaboration. For part one we expressed these words using form, then for part two we used type, and for part three we used a hybrid of type and form.
Form Sketches:
I drew 24 sketches for each word to use form to represent each word.
Form Roughs:
Here, I chose three favorite sketches for each word and developed them further on the computer. The first three represent the word 'collaboration.' I used line and shape to make images that show connectedness, or pieces working together to fill a space.

The next three depict the word 'noncooperation.' They show different sequences that become interrupted in some way.

The final three represent 'transmission.' These use motion to show a figure get from one place to another.
Form Finals:
I chose these three as my final forms for each respective word. I used my drafts and made them have more iconic qualities and bolder line, as well as some added mass.
Type Sketches:
We had to make 12 sketches for each of the three words. I selected my three favorite for each and developed them further.
Type Roughs:
Here, I used type, text and different fonts and sizes to represent each word with type, as well as incorporated a quote that goes along with the respective word.
Type finals:
I chose my favorite representation of each word and developed it on Illustrator.

For 'collaboration,' I arranged the letters in a circle as they work together to create the shape. They then have the repeating quotes to form a unified background.

For 'noncooperation,' I put the quote in strong bold letters and had the word written over it, against the colors of the text and the background.

For 'transmission,' the first and second halves of the word are placed on opposite sides of the composition and the quote flows through to connect the parts of the word.
Hybrid Sketches:
For each word, we were to create 12 sketches that combine the form and the text compositions.
Hybrid Roughs:
I chose three sketches from each word and developed them further on my computer.
Hybrid Finals:
For each word, I chose my favorite rough and developed them more.

For 'collaboration,' I used triangle shapes to form a larger shape and placed each letter from the word and placed it in between each shape.

For 'noncooperation,' I placed the word and the quote inside the shape I used for the form pieces. The offset circle cuts off the text to display lack of cooperation.

For 'transmission,' I put the word migrating into a shape, and the quote follows, flowing into the dark mass. The rest of the word comes out the other side via transmission.
Finals:
Here are my final compositions, which are one form, type, and hybrid version of each of the three words I selected.
