Client came for me with an idea to make unique design for cardboard cups for his dental clinic with an illustration of a happy and friendly doctor.
The main purpose - to make patients a little less stressed before visiting dentist office.
Client sent me couple references to define his vision:
First, client wanted an illustration to be more caricature and cartoon-styled, but not extra minimalist as on example.
As a starting point I took a portrait of Head Dentist of the clinic and sketched it in caricature style:
But this style didn't match good with the idea of friendly doctor, so we decided to move forward more cartoonish style and less grotesque.
Sketch 2 was closer to idea of "friendly and happy dentist", but client still found it grotesque. We decided to stick with style and composition, but go more realistic.
And we came up with Sketch 3 - the final version of an illustration.
With some manipulations in Photoshop I made dentists teeth whiter, erased some extra wrinkles and added client's logo to the background (updated it with watercolor texture to mach

For the background I found an abstract brush stroke pattern on Freepik and edited to match colors
After combining pattern, illustration and text blocks, I came up with these design
Client approved, and we came up with this final product
