Tennis Club- Zine visual identity

Tennis Club- Zine visual identity
This design was created responding to a brief for my university class. The task was to explore a promotional booklet whilst exploring use of a researched graphic style.

For this project, I decided to create a booklet promoting a tennis club.
It features colour vector illustrations I created, which are used are the main graphics.
I only the vectors are shown here, without the supporting copywriting, so as not to identify the actual club.

I wanted to bring vibrant colours, and a fun approach towards playing tennis, especially for those at a beginner level. From this, I decided to incorporate a 'Zine' style in the booklet design.
Illustration style:

To reference the style of 'Zine' (which was chosen during the brainstorming phase), a bold, script style font was used in combination with bold triadic colours and hand-drawn outlines, to give a sense of self-made characteristics.

This was intentionally executed to contrast the use of the highly legible and famously known typeface 'Helvetica', and the geometric lines outlining the tennis court illustrations.

By doing, I aimed to bring a sense of order, but also freedom, to represent both sides of the sport of tennis. Although the common objective is to follow the rules by hitting the ball inside the lines, playing with a tennis club should focus on the benefits of bringing your best effort and having fun playing the game.

Copywriting:

Here I used a saying "tennis menace" to convey qualities of authenticity and fun surrounding the club.

"Play between the lines" is intentional wordplay incorporated to communicate that the rules set in place shouldn't stop you from trying to play.
Shown: Left-pages 1-2. Right-front cover.
