Selected Landscape Plans

The owner of a large campsite in Wales approached us to develop plans for 18 'Ecopod' units on his rural site. The plan above shows these arranged in 3 groups with communal areas which include seating and firepits. Careful consideration was given to positioning of the units to maximise views of the surrounding countryside while maintaining privacy for each of the occupants. Access and circulation were also a key priority enabling access by footpaths to each Ecopod without dominating the site. A mix of native shrub and tree planting provides screening at key points while enhancing the ecological value of the development.
This large scale residential development (above) in Cheshire is currently going through the planning process. It is located in a 'green belt' area. The plan therefore has to communicate, how the proposals incorporate native woodland, meadows and water bodies.
This large mixed use development near Liverpool was illustrated with lots of precedent images to help sell the vision to the client.
On this project the client, a successful fashion designer, wanted a contemporary garden design with clean lines and lots of space for outdoor entertainment. We developed a design (above) that was based around a grid extending off the property. The drawing below used precedent images from acclaimed garden designer Luciano Giubbilei to communicate the vision. We used 'parasol' trees to reinforce a structured feel to the garden and the hard materials we specified were high quality limestone and white gravel, all of which created the desired effect of a minimal and sophisticated outdoor space.

The client wanted to "do something" with his mature, well established (but overgrown) garden. The image above shows how we identified areas of the garden that needed work and other elements that could be highlighted as special features.

The image below took this analysis a step further, still as a sketch design, but through subtle use of colour and the opacity in photoshop, distinguished between new, existing and enhanced elements of the proposed garden.
We were commssioned to provide a landscape masterplan for this extensive and historic property on the banks of the River Severn (above). By consulting historic maps of the site we idenitified feauters such as pathways and walled gardens which were no longer evident. Our new design reinstated these features and this wa communicated to the client with this initial sketch landscape layout.
The plan shown below looks very crude to me now, however it holds a special place in my heart as this was the first design I did at university. It is for an area within a public park in a semi rural location (Rivington in Lancashire). The plan includes areas for enjoying the extensive views, areas to sit alone and in groups. The park where this design is situated is within a series of gardens designed by Thomas Mawson, who was a prominent designer of the Arts & Crafts movement. My design therefore specified plants, trees and materials typical of this style.
The plans above are a selection from my time at DWG in New Zealand. They include large "lifestyle blocks" (kiwi for a rural smallholding) and new build houses in suburban and urban settings. As well as Concept Plans I would also produce Set Out Plans which were used by contractors on the build and Planting Plans which specified a mix of NZ native and exotic plants.
