brand identity for Portland Bombers

The Portland Bombers are an NFL football team in Portland, Oregon that aims to honor and embody the essence of the historic bomber plane with an identity that is vintage, bold, and tough to football fans across the nation.

The target audience is the community of Portland, Oregon and its loyal fans as well as football fans all across the nation.

DDC Hardware is used in the typography along with Avenir. DDC with its tough, thick and vintage qualities pair with the bold, yet minimal Avenir in order to create a very simplistic and bold type pairing to help convey what the Bombers are about.

The rudder red color helps to show our passionate love for the bomber and the red lettering from the original Bomber sign

Streamline silver is a nod to the silver planes such as the bomber as well as the silver aviation helmets and the streamlined sleekness of the planes

Our brand mark represents the bomber by using a dominant and bold bomb front and center backed by its dynamic wings to symbolize the flight of a plane and also pay homage to the classic bomber and its sign.

Our word mark is straight to the point with the DDC Hardware typeface. Bombers is red, emphasized and larger to show who we are and what our team represents. We are the BOMBERS.

The signature encapsulates what we're about in one horizontal piece. Our logotype coupled with our brand mark come together, and the addition of our tagline TAKE OFF helps to complete it. This shows very clearly that we are the BOMBERS and we are prepared for takeoff. The horizontal lines outside of the tagline help to draw your eyes inward and give even more hierarchy to the signature.

The business card is kept simple for clarity. A subtle line separates the logo and the name/information. This is done to keep the design minimal but also make the distinction of the two clear. A secondary logo is introduced on the back side. The wings of this logo are similar to the other but are much wider to mimic the vintage Bomber sign. The football is included behind to make it known that it is a football team. The white and gray backgrounds help to draw out the red and bring it forward, rather than bleed the card in red.

The stationery pattern is big, bold, and simple. The pattern uses brand colors and its alternating directions give a sense of movement. The letter is designed to give the fan not only important information, but also a feeling of nostalgia with a look back at the vintage bomber.

The jerseys were designed with the bomber in mind, and they were made to appear tough. The star and stripes on the sleeves is a nod to the classic planes as well as the Texaco sign at the bomber gas station. The number font is sleek and bold and the helmets feature the Bombers logo turned a bit to emphasize the bombs being dropped.

The away jerseys are a light version of our streamline silver rather than the common white away jersey in order to stand out from the rest, while still honoring our silver bomber plane

The tickets feature a player in uniform since this is what fans will be seeing come gameday. Other information such as the seating is much smaller in order to emphasize what appeals more to the audience - FOOTBALL. The back side of the ticket features more information such as the matchup, stadium and time so that weekly tickets don’t get confused.

The billboard ad is kept simple for reading while driving. The phrase FOR PORTLAND says quite simply that we are playing for our beloved city of Portland and the community. TAKE OFF is our slogan and gets the viewer excited for us to play.

The t-shirt designs are big and bold so that the fans can represent the historic Bomber on their chest proudly.
Coming in many different colors and designs, there's something for every kind of fan. Go Bombers!

A message from our owner - Art Lacey. The man who brought the bomber plane to Portland. The number 47 is used to represent the summer of 1947 when Lacey's journey of buying a plane and flying it back to Portland began.

PASSION THROUGH FOOTBALL.
That's what the Bombers are all about and strive to create in the city of Portland.

DDC HARDWARE and AVENIR. Both coming together to make a play.
And to communicate the brand's language. Vintage and bold unite.

TAKE OFF
Prepare for takeoff. The Portland Bombers are holding nothing back when they take the field.
