Banc & Lumin

Banc & Lumin utilizes the energy harvesting possibilities and eye-catching coloring of Luminescent Solar Concentrator (LSC) to transform urban environments in and around our cities. The design incorporates a bench seating and lighting arrangement, consisting of PV cell framed LSC panels which capture solar energy from different sun angles. The panels contort along the length of the bench providing a compelling aesthetic, whilst simultaneously separating the two seating areas.

The design is constructed of three panels, the main body is thermoformed to achieve the desired form and sits upon the stands. The benches are connected to and power the overhead light installation through use of the metal studs. The lighting transforms the area to an all-hours socializing, study or relaxing environment. The lights are assembled from PV-Partial Face LSC sheets, settled upon as the opacity of the material would provide for desired light distribution.

Banc & Lumin is a representation of how urban environments can be reimagined through use of sustainable construction materials, utilizing renewable energy. My design considers how urban environments can work for us, powering urban landscapes facilitating social interaction and leisure.
