DATA STORM
A generative artwork reacting in real time to numerous data flows

DATA STORM is a visual experiment reflecting the mass of data flows in perpetual motion, in perpetual transformation, which govern our world today. DATA STORM is a generative and connected digital artwork taking the form of a visual whirlwind. Both impactful and meditative, this creation is inspired by the hypnotizing movements of swarms of birds (also called murmurs), or the behavior of schools of fish, but also thousands of kilometers of cables that carry the Internet through the world. A reflection on the capacity of a swarm of independent, autonomous, different elements to come together to form a whole, a new coherent entity, just like the global network which today infiltrates all aspects of our lives.
In its full version, the images produced by the artwork are calculated in real time, allowing its shape, size, colors, movements and speed to react according to the data to which it is connected. DATA STORM thus uses a lot of real-time data from the web to live and move: meteorology, local or global pollution index, activities on Twitter, cryptocurrency prices, analysis of surrounding wi-fi networks, collections from the open data, interactivity…
The DATA STORM creation was presented to the public on the large Digital Facade of EP7, in the heart of Paris. The version presented in this context is an « exported » version. It was on display from October 14 to October 28, 2020.
