Class Project #10 - Unwrapped
Role: Sound & video editing, color correction & grading, motion graphics

Project #10 of Bring Your Own Laptop's Adobe Premiere Pro CC Essentials course.

Unwrap My Life is a movement to encourage every day people to eliminate single use plastics from their lives. Not everyone is ready to join the front-lines for the battle of environmental justice, but everyone can make small changes in their day-to-day habits that will benefit the environment.

For this project, I was ONLY provided audio for two different Unwrap My Life ad reads and asked to create two separate videos based on the audio. Both ad reads convey different messages and so I compiled footage, music, and graphics that best fit the theme of each ad. All footage used in these videos was stock footage provided by Envato Elements & Shutterstock. Music was found on YouTube Studio's audio library and the motion graphics were acquired from Adobe Stock.

One challenge while working on both videos was finding the right stock footage for both themes! Although there was plenty of "environmental justice" footage available online, I spent several hours digging through stock footage to find the right clips that conveyed what the narrator was saying.

Another challenge was picking the right graphic to use with the Option B video.
Because I was only using free resources for this project, my selection for video templates was limited. Ultimately, Option B closes with an animation of moving through leaves and brush to reveal the website's URL but I feel as though this outro is not quite "on-brand."

Unwrap My Life has not yet launched and there was limited information about the project to go off of; yet these limitations actually provided a lot of creative freedom for creating these two ads. Much of these videos came together as I was reviewing footage and listening to the audio, so it was really cool to see it all come together as I edited. I rarely have a clear vision of how I want my videos to look when I start editing, but what I enjoy the most about this art is how ideas pop up and refine themselves as the footage and audio are being put together. It is really neat to start from just audio and build it up to the final product.

I would like to return to this project and replace the watermarked footage so it looks more official. Additionally, I would also revisit the graphic templates I used and determine if there are alternatives that are more "on-brand." Ultimately, however, I am very please with the end result and proud of how far along I've come within this class. Forever grateful to instructor Dan Scott for this course! Here is to many more projects outside of class!
