Last December I went on a short road trip from Maryland to New York City, it took about 4 to 5 hours to get there. After spending less than a day (sadly) at the city that never sleeps, I went back on the road to MD. It was a really quick visit, but I tried to make sure to remember every second of it,

Of course, there are millions of photos of NYC, but we all know it never gets old, specially for those who fell in love at first sight with this wonderful city full of possibilities. To be honest, I didn't have anything special on mind, I was just trying to capture the essence of the place and the moment.

Today, almost a year after my visit, I took another look at the photos. I realized there are people smiling at the camera in one of them, which I don't remember noticing at all that day. That photo suddenly became one of favorites, I can see something special about it. It made me realize what the real essence of NYC is: people and their energy.

So you will see people in these photos, I don't care much about the big buildings, I care about the life around them; the energy I felt and I can still feel when I look at these photos. The lifestyle, the freedom, people moving, being themselves, wearing Santa costumes, not caring too much about the world outside this place, as if NYC was the only city in the world. I love that. I love the feeling all this people gave to my work, and it is something I want to share with everyone who gets to see my photos.

Thanks for a cold December day, New York. It surely felt like Christmas to me.
