Korifej Festival 7: Summer Under Masks

At the start of 2020, I began working on a new visual identity for the 7th Korifej Festival, alternative theater festival that takes place in the small town of Kolašin, in the north of Montenegro. It became a tradition to develop something new every year, to somehow reinvent the identity of this festival from the scratch. First theme of this edition was ''Summer for the Arts'', in rough translation. And since we're limited to social media, the only visual ''teasers'' we mostly make are profile / cover pictures.
Making these ''teasers'' is also a chance to think of new set of rules which may help in the later development for more complex tasks, such as making the festival schedule or whole series of posters for individual events. See Korifej 5, for example.
And right before we started thinking of designs for official posters and schedules, you all know what happened. New plan was to adapt the festival to all the restrictions, to give up of inviting the international guests and limit the program to the theatre ensembles from Montenegro. The new theme / slogan was ''Summer Under Masks''.
Cover image was adapted as well. And this was a new basis for making the ''official'' poster:
Another ''tradition'' of Korifej is to have these ''teasers'' in print as well. So we always have a first, introduction poster, with main information only, and after the schedule is completed and confirmed, it is designed separately, as an additional poster. It is also a chance to experiment with all the aspects of a visual identity, to see how far we can go with the whole new language of the festival.
The sun and the mask were put into different environment for the festival schedule, and a character of Don Quixote was added as well (since it was set as the first, opening show, as you can see).  Again, even with this very very limited schedule, with only 14 events, and with all guarantees that there will be no risk to the health of the participants and visitors, this festival was not held.
Again, I'm happy that the news of this year's festival, together with all these visuals, were published on the extraordinary platform Parallel-Parallel, dedicated to the events that were postponed or cancelled because of the pandemic. Many thanks to Dorothee Dähler and Yeliz Secerli for featuring this work on their great platform.
