Paseo Court Affordable Housing

Paseo Court creates a new urban neighborhood that fosters social, economic, and environmental sustainability and connections. By introducing varied apartment typologies, different San Jose communities share the same spaces and become neighbors. By mixing synergistic retail spaces with private community spaces and social services, the public realm around Paseo Court becomes an engaging place for all. Creating this unique space encourages long term investment and a symbiotic relationship between the community and its visitors. By organizing the site along an environmentally-oriented greenway, the entire neighborhood can capitalize on San Jose’s beautiful climate while introducing much needed urban foliage.

Inspired by the gradual expansion and contraction of the Paseo de San Antonio, Paseo Court enhances the public space adjacent to the Hammer Theater by developing a landscaped greenway through the center of the housing complex which invigorates two expanded open spaces at either end of the block. The greenway creates a protected, shared space that intermingles community amenities and services with public retail to create a vibrant ground floor. The greenway also ensures that every unit opens onto a unique view while providing passive environmental benefits such as solar gains, daylighting, and natural ventilation. The greenway adapts to each building to involve community spaces into a pedestrian friendly, urban landscape
