LIBERATION WAR MEMORIAL & MUSEUM

The Liberation War of Bangladesh is the greatest achievement in our national life. The nine month long war took place in 1971. Before independence, Bangladesh, as the eastern wing of Pakistan had suffered much exploitations and agony under the Pakistani rulers for long 25 years.

Many significant political incidents took place, like the victory of Awami-League in the 1970’s election, the Yahya -Bhutto conspiracy, and lastly the genocide that began from the night of March 25, 1971. The Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu got arrested and on behalf of him, the independence of Bangladesh was declared on March 26, 1971. The liberation war started and Pakistani forces cracked down upon the armless, innocent people of Bangladesh. They played the role of butchers, killed intellectuals, tortured innumerable women, burnt houses, crops, looted property etc. The provisional government of Bangladesh was formed leading the Liberation War while the Mukti Bahini fought relentlessly and crafted counter attacks. During the liberation war period, the motivation, efficiency and strength of the freedom fighters and of each and every citizen of Bangladesh to gain victory was unprecedented. As a result on 16 December, Pakistani forces surrendered and Bangladesh achieved its independence. In fact, this victory was the triumph of justice over tyranny.

The concept of Liberation War Museum is to facilitate the visitors visualize the historical journey of the emergence of Bangladesh as a new Nation from the darkened days till its enlightening victory. The gradual improvisation of dark to brighter achievement has been represented through the “DARK CORRIDOR “and procurements through open courts. The “PERMANENT EXHIBITION” discloses the symbols including arms, evidences and other equipment which evoke the image of the struggles and agonies of 1971. The "LIBERTY PILLAR" is a substitute of robust determination, stability and sturdiness of our freedom fighters and the strong devotion of the people for their motherland during the war. The “Library” only has the leverage of books, novels, documentaries, files, registries, archives related to the Liberation War. The journey continues to the “permanent and temporary exhibitions“. Finally, this historical experience terminates into the “ ETERNAL FLAME ”, a sample of dominance of justice over all inequity, unjustness, and unfairness. In winding up, this museum is the representation of our pride, glorious history and accomplishments and remind us of the nobility and opulence of an enriched Bangladesh.
