Revitalising the Contaminated

The absence of a waterfront green space in Auckland dedicated to the advocation of a sustainable future is the prime driving force behind the design. The America’s Cup held in Auckland for 2020 provides a great opportunity for the renovation of Wynyard Wharf. Wynyard Wharf has long been a landfill of harmful industrial waste since its reclamation back in the 1930s. The redevelopment of silos 6 & 7 into Silo Park repurposed the site into a vibrant outdoor space for events and exhibitions. The groundwork of an outdoor community area instigated by Silo Park is what the proposal aspires to build upon; The flower-shaped towers collect water from rainfall to irrigate a variety of new vegetation planted for the waterfront garden, repurposing the reclaimed land from a harmful relic of the past into a sustainable environment for the future.
