The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is one of the foremost art collections in the country, specializing in Renaissance through 19th century painting and decorative arts. Its artworks, building, and interior arrangements are entirely the vision of its namesake founder, who willed her collection to the city of Boston. To preserve and further expand the scope of its offerings, Renzo Piano Building Workshop was commissioned to design a new building and landscape next to the Gardner Museum, including a conversation lab, exhibition space, greenhouses, and performance hall. Our campaign for this new era in the life of the institution builds on the idea of the Gardner as an immersive 21st Century Salon where where art, in interaction with music, horticulture, contemporary art, and education programs can truly come to life.
