Under the guise of sloppy handwriting, this design tested the way we recognize shapes as letters. How much do we rely on context and experience when we read? There appear to be twenty-six letters, but there are only eleven, with each shape representing two or three letters at the same time. The reliance on context gave it the name “Sum of the Parts,” but as it only has eleven shapes, it has the alternate name “Some of the Parts.”  Designed 1994
