Rios Clementi Hale Studios oversaw and managed the four month process of renovating the Streamline Modern-style fountain at the Hollywood bowl created by sculptor George Stanley (who also designed the Oscar statuette) in 1940.
Three venerable sculptures carved from 300 tons of granite – the Muses of Drama and Dance flank the kneeling Muse of Music – adorn the cleaned and re-grouted structures that also received entirely new electrical and plumbing systems. The updates restored the fountain to working condition for the first time in 30 years.
A new static marquee of the Modern style complements structures inside the park, thus creating visual cohesion from entryway to concert venue. The marquee, located south of the granite fountain, displays events within a sleek, stainless-steel casing. A second marquee – this one electronic – scrolls messages with its new color light panels and electronic design.
The entry landscape evokes instant elegance as formal plant arrangements reinforce the presence of the Art Deco fountain. A consistent array of low ground cover, defined hedges, and high palms retains the Bowl’s park-like quality and further enhances pedestrian wayfinding.
