Nichols Canyon Residence
Hollywood, California, 2010
Architectural renovation and interior design of a Buff & Hensman residence originally built in 1961. The historic building was restored back to its original ground plan and window openings. The structure was opened up much like open-air pavilions in South America. All the windows slide into walls or stack. The structure was re-clad in reclaimed barn wood. Legendary California ceramicist Stan Bitters was enlisted to create two water walls. An expansive outdoor living area with a kitchen, bathroom structure, billiard room and reconfigured pool was created to encourage indoor/outdoor living. The entire house can also be controlled remotely and is energy efficient. The interior is warm, cozy, and includes a collection of favorite furnishings from South American design and European Modernism.
