Carnation Street Residence
Los Angeles, California, 2008
Architectural renovation and interior design of early modernist residence built in 1931 by a Japanese engineer. Reclaimed metal windows, clay finished walls, custom glazed concrete floor tiles and custom cabinetry in black walnut were added. Bathrooms were hand built in oiled teak by a local artisan. The house has the feel of a Japanese farmhouse meets a stream lined modern structure. All materials were carefully selected to have no “off- gassing” and everything was oiled and left with a natural finish. We embraced the imperfections of nature, encouraged patina as well as daily interaction with the outdoor.
