The theme of Resort for 2013-2014 is sweetness, color and optimism. The collection is full of whimsy and charm; and all the signature details that I'm most known for. It is truly a gift from my heart, to all my fans around the world!
Each Delivery has its own distinct color story. The First Grouping has an Art Deco palette of coral and teal, black and cream. I feature playful animal themes in novelty conversational prints, often mixed in my iconic print collages; cats, parrots, birdcages, bubbles and dots (all with matching lace trims!). The same cats and birds make an appearance on James Coviello's ethnic Fair Isle sweaters! The grouping also includes laser-punched imitation leather, shimmer jacquard, crinkled buffalo plaid, giant paisley velvet burnouts, antique floral embroideries, waves of gold and amber sequins on mesh, cuddly faux leopard, and sweaters with detachable tinsel fox collars.
For the Second Delivery, we find ourselves in a Mod Garden; the flowers bloom in shades of carmine, poppy, plum, periwinkle, cornflower, teal and jade. The florals grow in variations of scale, from oversized-to-miniature; morning glories, patchwork pop daisies, floral eyelet jacquards. There are also digital trompe l'oeil sequins, black lace covered tartan plaid, geometric jet embroidery and butterfly embroidered tulle.
Group Three returns to my favorite theme of mid-century modern Americana; variations of stars and hearts on checkerboard grids. Doves, wheelbarrows, seashells, nosegays, brides and bridegrooms, line-up in naive groupings of folk art iconography from vintage handkerchiefs and tea towels. There are heart and rosebud prints, bird and star embroidered lace, novelty denim, matte jersey, zigzag appliqué embroidery, laser-cut Baroque swirls mounted on mesh, and borders of ingenious flowers cut from menswear cotton stripe shirting.
We raid the fruit bowl in Group Four with ever-popular apples, strawberries, and digital cherry prints. Other conversational highlights include kittens in the parlor, and graphic elephants lining-up in checkerboard formation. There are daisy brocades, embroidered voile, burnout lace, butterfly jacquard and faux Mongolian lamb.
The shapes of the season include everything you want to be wearing right now: vintage party dresses, beaded flapper dresses, 1930's housedresses, crisp shirtdresses, faux-leather cocktail dresses. There are peasant smocks, school girl blouses, frilly luxe-bohemian tops, and lacey sweaters. There are embroidered lace balloon parkas, and jaunty heart-and-checkerboard folkloric caplets, boyfriend jackets, military jackets, varsity jackets, dolman cardigans, caftans, kimonos, beach cover-ups, swimsuits and mini gym shorts. There are soft turbans, antique beaded collars, crochet petal scarves, and the ever-collectable hand-knit kitten caps.
